Course overview and goals

This course focuses on carefully selected cutting-edge fields that are directly related to biotechnology and are also attracting strong social attention. Several leading early-career researchers in these areas will be invited as part-time lecturers. Through an intensive three-day program, students will learn about the background and fundamentals of each field, as well as the latest research findings and their social significance.

At present, the following topics are planned, although they may be subject to change depending on the availability of the invited lecturers:

– To what extent can the “brain” be artificially created, and how can this contribute to disease research?
– Why is the tardigrade considered the “strongest organism,” and is it really the strongest?
– How has fluorescence microscopy overcome its limits, and how far can its resolution be improved?
– How can quantum light sources overcome the limitations of conventional optical measurement, and to what extent?

The aim of this course is for students to encounter the forefront of highly active research areas, acquire up-to-date knowledge, and use that knowledge both to advance their own research and to strengthen their motivation for future study.
