Course overview and goals

This course provides students with an overview of the rules of society and business that will be relevant when they build their own careers in industry or academia after completing the master's degree program. In particular, the course covers intellectual property rights such as patent, trademark right, design right, and copyright, as well as standards, following an overview of laws in society and business. Compliance, ethics, and crisis management will also be covered with some actual cases.

The aim of this course is to acquire an overview of the rules of society and business, which many students have not had much opportunity to know before, and to understand that the rules are closely related to realize innovation using technology in society, and that it is necessary to actively know the broad framework of the rules in order to build their own career in the real world. Understanding the broad framework of rules is essential for successful communication with those who do not specialize in technology, in order to realize innovation in the real world.
Students are expected not only to acquire relevant knowledge, but also to regard the content of the lecture as their own personal issues, and to consider how it will be specifically valuable/applicable to their own future career development.

Therefore, when taking this course in 2Q, be sure to choose one of these courses and attend lectures in that course continuously. Students should not attend lectures in different courses from week to week.

Prior to taking the course, please make sure that students have downloaded the latest version of the Zoom application. (Avoid connecting with browsers such as Chrome as it may be unstable or have limited functionality.) To maintain students' concentration, the connected device is preferable to be the one with a larger display, such as a PC, and tablet. Students should prepare a camera and a microphone for interactive lectures, and keep their cameras connected during lecture time.

In order to avoid being unable to attend lectures in real time once a course starts due to a poor communication environment, prior to taking the course, students must ensure an Internet environment with a speed of 600 kbps/1.2 Mbps (upload/download) or higher, without worrying about data volume during lecture time.
