Course overview and goals

This training course primarily targets D1 and D2 students who plan to pursue an academic career, such as a professor, in the near future. This course will help them learn best teaching practices by attending lectures and conducting mock classes by themselves.

Course description and aims

The goal of this training course is for students to experience teaching practices, including conducting mock classes by themselves, and to learn teaching skills by attending lectures on teaching.

Class flow

This training course consists of the following parts: first, attend a lecture on teaching skills. The second is two mock classes by each doctoral student: one to give high-school students a lecture on each student's research, and the other to provide first-year university students with a lecture on basic science.
All students will receive the Zoom URLs, can download instructors' lecture materials, and can upload their reports through the LMS.

Class 3	October 23 (Fri.), 5-8 period, Zoom On-site lecture practice for high school students (Hidekazu Tanaka)	Preparation of PPT files for the on-site lecture.
Class 4	October 31 (Sat.), 5-8 period, Zoom On-site lecture at Ohyu Gakuen Girls' Junior and Senior High School (Susumu Saito, Hidekazu Tanaka) Please cover your own transportation expenses.
Class 5	November 13 (Fri.), 5-8 period, Zoom Mock lecture for first-year university students (Hidekazu Tanaka)	Preparation of PPT files for the mock lecture.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Prerequisites

1) International students can take this training course under the condition of having a Japanese-language ability at an N1 level in the Japanese language proficiency test (JLPT).
2) Doctoral students cannot register for this course within six months of enrolling in the doctoral program.
