Course overview and goals
This course focuses on the “voice,” the foundation of communication, and practically explores its potential. Vocal communication is essential for human mutual understanding and indispensable for science and engineering students in presentations and discussions. The course provides basic training in breath, voice, and body, followed by expressive practice such as reciting prose and poetry, choral singing, and reading monologues/dialogues from plays. Finally, all students will give a public performance using a text of their own choice.
The aims are to deepen understanding of the voice as a means of communication, master breathing, vocalization, and physical techniques, explore vocal expression connected to text, and enhance expressive skills applicable to social situations such as research presentations and speeches.
