Course overview and goals

This course focuses on ocean challenges, a critical frontier in realizing a Super Smart Society. We will examine how cutting-edge science can be leveraged to smart ocean and explore how students’ respective fields of expertise can be applied to these solutions. Furthermore, by drawing on the instructor’s multifaceted career, students will gain insights to inspire and shape their own future career planning.

Course description and aims

Students will learn about cutting-edge research and development related to smart oceans and be able to provide their examples. They will also be able to describe examples of new business models that will lead to the creation of a future society by solving social issues such as the proper management of marine resources and the efficiency of the fishing industry, and be able to envision career plans for those who work there.

Students who have already earned credits for the following courses in or before AY2025 are not eligible to register for their corresponding successor courses from AY2026 onwards.
