Syllabus

Course overview and goals

Humans are beings that live cooperatively. So, how is this communality (friends, organizations such as clubs and companies, nations) created? In this lecture, we will learn how communities are formed in societies ranging from self-sufficient hunter-gatherer societies to modern societies characterized by industrialization and urbanization. The aim of this lecture is for students to be able to apply what they learn in class to their daily lives.This class also aims to share your own opinions through dialogue in groups, listen to others'
comments, and update your own thinking.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Evaluation will be based on a small assignment for each lecture (80%) and participation in
group dialogue during the lecture (20%).
