Syllabus

Course overview and goals

Explain meanings of corporate finance and its task or problem. In order to increase corporate value, I will explain finance and finance related matters. For the improvement of corporate value, how to manage companies would be main target from the point of corporate finance. As for current movement, I will explain digital currency movement.
I hope every student understands how interesting corporate finance is.

Course description and aims

1. Learn Corporate Finance without stress.
2. Understand financial statements and how to use them from a finance perspective.
3. Understand strategies for growing a company (e.g., M&A, ESG).

Class flow

Corporate Finance 1 will cover the basics. You may ask questions at any time during class (via chat or voice). There will also be occasional 10-minute breakout sessions in groups of 4 to 6. If you’re not comfortable with breakouts, you may step out temporarily.

(a) What are financial statements?
(b) Assets, liabilities, profit & loss, and cash flow
(c) Expected return and risk

Corporate Value and Financial Statements

Understand the following points:
(a) Purpose of corporate management
(b) Agency-principal problem
(c) Must corporate value always increase?
(d) Concept of corporate value

Class 4

Thinking About Investment

Understand the following points:
(a) Various types of investments
(b) Are investment activities recorded in the income statement or balance sheet?
(c) Do investments generate returns?
(d) ROA and ROE
(e) Present value
(f) Quantifying risk

Capital Procurement: Equity Financing

Understand the following points:
(a) Shares are created
(b) Capital increase
(c) Internal equity financing
(d) Does equity financing affect the balance sheet?

Capital Procurement: Debt Financing

Understand the following points:
(a) What is debt financing?
(b) Which is more advantageous: equity or debt financing?
(c) Bonds: straight bonds, convertible bonds, warrant bonds
