Course overview and goals
In this class, we study about gender equality policy and related communication strategies in Japan and other countries. Promoting gender equality is important in many areas such as politics, labor and education. We compare Japan with other countries so that we can understand current Japanese situation and issues. Based on that, we will learn about related policies and its communication strategies and analyze the effectiveness.

1) Understand the characteristics and the reasons of gender gap in Japan, 2)Major policies related with gender equalities, 3) Understand how politics, economy and education affect filling and widening existing gender gaps, 4) Understand strategic communications

Instructor serves committee members or chair in the meetings for promoting gender equality in the Cabinet Office. Also based on the experience of attending international meetings about gender equality, the instructor will provide pragmatic education.

Class flow
In this class, students will listen to lecturers and participate in dialogues. Group discussion may also used depend on the class size. Students may have reading assignments.

| Class 4 | Issues about male workers | Working men's issues such as long working hours, mental health, work and life balance will be discussed. |
| Class 5 | Gender based violence and how to tackle with the issue | Gender based violence and related policies. |
| Class 6 | Gender gap in unpaid care work | Lean about gender gap on unpaid care work such as housework, childcare and elderly care. Related policy and communication strategies. |
| Class 7 | Future direction of policies | Lecture and talk about future policies in Japan and the world. |
Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
