Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course is to make assessment for actual overseas training experience (including study abroad) of more than 20 days to less than 30 days.
It will be evaluated through study abroad plan(Japanese or English), report (English), and recorded final presentation (English).
It is aimed that through oversea experience, one can obtain skills mentioned in the goal below.

Course description and aims

1) Student will be able to develop new international perspectives free from existing concepts.
2) Student will be able to make proposal on new ideas to individuals, organizations, or institutions.
3) Student will be able to make new proposal, implement, evaluate, and revise it for the enhancement of society based on their field of expertise, with cooperation of other experts.

Class flow

Through short-term overseas training programs provided by the university or partner institutions, the student will conduct activities related to their academic research. Prior to visiting overseas, the student is requested to submit the study abroad plan. Upon return, the student is requested to submit the report (English), and submit recorded final presentation (English).

Class 1 [Before] ■Submit study abroad plan (Submit as soon as the schedule is fixed, in Japanese or English) A4 size, 1-2pages, should be included, 1)Country, city, destination 2)Schedule, period 3)Motivation, purpose 4)How to spend time (planned courses to take, lab., etc.) 5)Accomodation(dormitory, home stay...etc.) [On-site activities] ■Through preparation and actual on-site activities, one should be able to deepen own learning and develop skills for proposal making, planning, and implementation of the activities. One should also develop international perspective through the study abroad experience. [After study abroad] ■Submit Report (In two weeks after finishing study abroad, in English) A4 size, 5-10 pages (including pictures and tables), should be included, 1) Outline of the program, 2) Program schedule, 3) Your purpose to participate the program 4) Details of the activities (Lectures, Research activities, Discussion, Communication with lab. members, Cultural exchange with local students, Extracurricular activities, site visits, etc), 5) Explanation on how your field of expertise and this study-abroad experience has developed your skills described in course objectives, how you act for developing such skills in your near future, 6) Personal essay (Episode that can describe your own growth, new findings, and others) ※Ability sould be acqure -Actively participate in the program with clear goals, and can keep make effort to future career plans after returning -Can consider things from new global perspectives -Can provide new ideas and proposals to organizations, and groups. -Can collaborate with experts in related and other fields to formulate, execute, evaluate, and improve new proposals for better society with based on their own expertise. -Can explain the overview, history, culture, etc. of the country visited, and can act to deepen their own learning, and can utilize the experience as a reference for careers. -Always practices health management and methods for avoiding risk during study abroad. -Knows the contact information (medical institutions, embassies, police, etc.) in case of illness or encounters an incident or accident, and can resolve to the issue by their own. ■Submit presentation slide (In three weeks after finishing study abroad, in English) 10-15 min. make slides and record the presentation, submit mp4. file, Based on your report,contents should mainly focus on 4), 5), 6), that can descicbe your growth cleary. Please note that your reports and presentations may be used in a wide range of PR and reporting materials for global education after personal information has been removed. If you do not wish for this to be the case, please contact us in advance. Submit study abroad plan and report, and submit recorded final presentation.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Pass and fail based on following assessments;
Study-abroad plan: 10%
Report: 50%
Final Presentation: 40%
In the report and final presentation, along with the actual implementation of the study abroad plan, student should clearly explain how the skills described in learning outcomes are obtained with actual cases and examples.

Prerequisites

Student should have English proficiency (TOEIC score 750 or above, TOEFL-iBT score 80 or above), so that he/she will be able to understand the lectures and actively participate in discussions.
Before registering the course, student should have specific overseas training program provided by the university or partner institutions to participate and be accepted, and should gain agreement with his/her supervisor.
Students should submit the study abroad plan and obtain the acceptance for its plan from instructors of this course.
