Course overview and goals

This course focuses on the career decision making process (①getting to know yourself better ②getting to know the society around you and your career options ③finding a better career fit and making decision). This approach will be applicable to the new graduates’ job hunting process.
The Japanese lifetime employment system has been going through a drastic change. Because the work styles have diversified so much, we cannot depend on organizations to make career decision for us. We have to have the ability to design our own career by ourselves all lifelong.
As the best science and technology university in Japan, Science Tokyo graduates are the ones who will find the keys to the solutions of various issues on the global level and will be the successful leaders to implement these solutions. They also have to develop their personal and professional abilities not only for more rewarding and successful careers, but also for making a contribution to society. This course not only provides general information about career design methodology, but also facilitates students’ understanding in highly expertized science and technology careers, where they can exhibit their ability both in depth with an expertise in a chosen field in science and technology and in communicative and leadership competencies.
This course has two aims. The first is to get students acquire the ability to design their own careers not only in occupational careers but in life development. The other is to get students organize systematically what they have learnt in Science Tokyo and where they can contribute to the society using what they learnt and transmit those ideas to others as needed. To this end, this course gives students many chances of group-works and personal exercises.
