Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course will provide lectures and exercises on listening comprehension of the news. The aim of this course is to help students learn how to listen to the news and explain its contents. Online classes will be streamed live via Zoom, and the instructor will check each student's progress individually during the class.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) catch the keyword through listening;
2) understand the main points in each paragraph through listening;
3) explain the content of the news;

Class flow

This course will provide lectures and exercises on listening comprehension of the news. Students are expected to focus on mutual task activities in the classroom.

Class 1 Listening1 lecture 1. Practice listening to the lecture only with audio sounds.
Class 2 Listening2 lecture 2. Practice listening to the lecture only with audio sounds.
Class 3 Listening3  Theoretical explanation Practice listening to the theoretical explanation in video. And explain its contents.
Class 4 Listening4 Watching the news. Practice understanding the lecture by watching some video footages.
Class 5 Listening5 Watching the historical background explanation. Practice understanding the historical background explanation by watching video footages and explain the contents of the video.
Class 6 Listening6 Watching the historical background explanation. Another video on the previous subject. Use to summarize and explain the content from two pieces of information.
Class 7 Examination: Presentation of the selected news. Using what you have learned through the course, select and present news.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes each for preparing for and reviewing each class (including the time spent for assignments) by referring to textbooks and other course materials.

Approaches to in-class tasks (35%), homework (32%), presentations (20%), and the final report (20%).

Only for international students who have completed Intermediate Japanese 6 or the equivalent level.
