Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course is designed for students who have completed French: intermediate course 4 or have an equivalent competence in French language. Emphasis will be placed on developing their reading and listening skills with a focus on the advanced French grammar and acquisition of vocabulary. The course will also facilitate students’ understanding of contemporary French and Francophone cultures, through various materials such as newspaper articles, essays, short stories and television news.
This course aims to help students develop their French language skills as well as understand French and Francophone cultures.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Increase their knowledge of French grammar and vocabulary.
2. Improve their reading and listening skills in French language.
3. Understand and appreciate French and Francophone cultures.

Class flow

Students are expected to read each unit in the textbook before coming to each lesson. The instructor explains the essential points of the unit with a focus on grammar and vocabulary, followed by a discussion on the topic of the day.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
