Course overview and goals

In this course, a two-month team project called the Lean Launchpad program (LLP) has been offered in order to demonstrate students’ own entrepreneurship and practice "developing new value and excecuting it in society" This program is positioned at the "social implementation stage" of the three stages of entrepreneurship education: "motivation and awareness building stage," "competency formation stage," and "social implementation stage."

<Programming Boot Camp (PBC)>
Students will propose new web application ideas, form teams with members who agree with them, identify development requirements, decide on the division of roles, and experience developing a web application that can withstand user verification from scratch in a short period of time. Participants will recognize that sharing objectives, identifying the appealing points and user benefits of the proposed web application, and thoroughly confirming development items, milestones, and development goals among members are necessary for development in a short period of time. In consideration of the fact that development is intensive in a short period of time, development items will be reviewed depending on the development status, questions can be asked as they arise, and the programming languages and ability levels of the participating students vary, (1) the training will be in the form of a three-day camp, and (2) multiple real-world web application development experts will be on-site to provide immediate support and advice to the student team.

In addition, for beginners in development, lectures and drills on non-code tools will be held, and for students with some knowledge, lectures on connecting with databases will be held for about one month before the start of the program (only for those who wish to do so, not eligible for credits).
The ultimate goal is to present a web service that users can actually use and feel the benefits of. Through these activities, participants will gain a practical understanding of the basic operations and knowledge that must be considered in order to "develop new value and excecute it in society". Furthermore, as this program involves practicing the very basics of business - the realization/materialization of new value (prototype creation), it is an ideal program for those who wish to enter the business world in the future, including "starting a business".
For detailed information about the program and schedule, please attend the briefing session or refer to the ToTAL website

To carry out this program, we will invite external experts (a group of experts led by Junichiro Ueno of Scaleout Inc.) who are well versed in web application development and have ample experience in nurturing startups, as guest lecturers to provide guidance to student teams.

To complete the program, students will be required to comprehensively demonstrate the elements of "leadership" and "entrepreneurship," such as sharing a vision and purpose, empathy, issue identification, proposing solutions (ideas), prototyping, user testing, verifying hypotheses, communicating with customers, collaborators, and team staff, and taking actions.

Course description and aims

(1) By putting into practice what one considers to be "leadership" and "entrepreneurship," one will be able to recognize the level of one's own thinking and abilities. In particular, the following abilities will be confirmed and acquired:
i. One can propose practical ideas to solve social issues by utilizing one's own expertise.
ii. One can explain one's ideas appropriately and build consensus within a team while respecting the opinions of others.
iii. One can appropriately improve proposals based on feedback from society.
iv. One can complete group work as a project.
(2) This will allow participants to experience one of the most important thing to consider when creating a new business: visualizing the selling points to users (creating a prototype) in a short period of time. This will help them understand the principles of business, including starting their own business as a future option.

Student learning outcomes

(2) Based on the web application ideas proposed by the students themselves, the students will form teams and develop them in a short period of time from scratch to a level that can be verified by users.
(3) Each time, students will exchange information about the development status among themselves and hold discussions with experts to brush up on the web application they are developing.
(4) An outside expert with extensive experience in web application development will accompany the student teams and provide advice, enabling them to set logical next steps and change direction.
