Syllabus
Course overview and goals
Students will learn the psychological perspectives and counseling methods necessary to understand and support children and students in educational counseling through case studies, group work, role plays, and other exercises.
The aim of this lecture is to deepen understanding of the problems and backgrounds that occur in the field of elementary and secondary education, to understand the significance of providing support in cooperation with parents and other professions and to acquire the necessary methods to do so.
Course description and aims
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1)Explain the purpose and methods of educational counseling.
2)Get an understanding the background of various issues at school (bullying, school refusal, child abuse, etc.) and suggest ways to deal with them.
3)Acquire the listening skills necessary to support children.
4)Obtain the knowledge of counseling methods necessary for educational counseling.
5)Acquire the ability to think about how to work with parents.

In this lecture, instructors with practical experience as educational counselors will utilize their practical experience to develop practical skills through discussions based on fictitious cases and role-plays.

Class 2 | Understanding and responding to bullying | Understand the group mechanisms that make bullying more likely to occur and the need for support not only for victims of bullying but also for bullying students. |
Class 3 | Understanding and responding to school refusal. | Understand the various reasons behind school refusal and points to keep in mind when providing support. |
Class 4 | Understanding and responding to child abuse | Understand the background to the rapid increase in child abuse and the response required of teachers. |
Class 5 | Foundations of psychotherapy | Can explain basic ideas of psychotherapy |
Class 6 | Advanced psychotherapy | Explain various psychotherapy theories |
Class 7 | Educational counseling for the children | Understands educational counseling for the parents |
