Course overview and goals
・This lecture assumes that all credits for the teaching subject courses Method of Teaching Sciences I to III have been obtained.
・The students will work on discovering and concretizing themes for educational practice research, developing teaching materials, and engaging in educational practice targeting high school students.
Course description and aims
・Learn how to effectively solve educational practice research themes in sciences education using educational technology methodologies.
・In science classes, learn how to teach using discipline-based epistemological approaches of science, and how to reconfigure knowledge so that you can effectively draw on the domain-specific knowledge of the science subjects in the context of problem solving.
Keywords
Project-Based Learning, discipline-based epistemological approaches of science
Competencies
- Specialist skills
- Intercultural skills
- Communication skills
- Critical thinking skills
- Practical and/or problem-solving skills
Class flow
Each class will follow the format “explanation of the assignment - individual work - group discussion of the results”, and then the next class will be “discussion of the results submitted in advance - examination of improvement policies - group discussion - report on today's work and preparation for the next time”.
The class will be held as a concentrated lecture, so please check the class schedule on the web page for the teacher training course (https://www.te.ila.titech.ac.jp/).
Course schedule/Objectives
Course schedule | Objectives | |

Class 1 | Determine the theme of your own educational practice research. Discover and define the theme of your educational practice research, and create a practical plan (problem analysis and clarification of concepts and objectives). | After class, students will plan and submit a theme and practical plan (mainly concept and purpose) of their choice. |
Class 2 | Reporting and discussion of the theme of the educational practice inquiry activity and its practical plan (setting of the issue, outline planning of the practical plan, and examination of the form of practice) | After the class, students will submit a practical plan (mainly including the assignment, outline and format), and this will be discussed in detail before the 3rd class. |
Class 3 | Practical planning exercise (consideration and creation of a concrete plan for practical planning). | After the class, submit a concrete plan for practical implementation, and proceed with the design of teaching materials before the 4th class. |
Class 4 | Exercise 1 for developing teaching materials (reviewing and creating the teaching materials you have designed). | After class, submit a lesson plan and prepare the teaching materials before the 5th class. |
Class 5 | Exercise 2 for developing teaching materials (reviewing and improving the teaching materials you have created). | Improve and complete the teaching materials before the 6th class. |
Class 6 | Considering formative evaluation of teaching materials and improvement policies. | Improve the practical plan and teaching materials before the 7th class and submit the final version. |
Class 7 | Educational practice and reflection. Reflection from the perspective of educational practice research themes. | By the specified date, students will submit a report summarizing the work done in this class. |
