Course overview and goals
"Spanish: Basic Course 1'' is designed for beginners with no previous experience in the language. By the end of the quarter, students can expect to express themselves in simple phrases and sentences. You will learn the pronunciation and spelling of the language, how to read and write simple texts in present tense, and some basic rules of the Spanish grammar.

1. To be able to pronounce Spanish frases correctly and fluently
2. To be able to use greetings properly in Spanish
3. To be able to compose very simple sentenses in Spanish

Class flow
The instructor explains the main grammatical points of the day. Students will solve some quizzes on related topics, and also read texts in classroom to get a better understanding of each topic.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

To be announced at the 1st session. You may purchase the textbook at the COOP bookstore beforehand.
Attention: Until the 2024 academic year, one text book was used in all the classes, but this is not the case from this year on.

Instructors will recommend useful books, websites and other resources in class.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Learning achievement is evaluated by the end of term exam (50%) and other measures such as mini-quiz, participation and end of term essays or recordings (50%). Each class will use a different measures to allocate 50 points, and the details will be explained at the first session.
