Syllabus
Course overview and goals
"Chinese: Basic Course" is intended for students who have no knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. The course will begin with the exercise of the Chinese Pinyin Romanization system: tones, rules of phonetic spelling, and pronunciation drill. We also learn simple conversation and basic grammar, to build up rudimentary communication ability of Chinese. As the second step, at "beginner's class 2," we will develop the basics of grammar in the basic sentence that students have learnt at "beginner's class 1". In addition, by using the supplementary materials, we will touch the cultural and social background of the China, will also to help students to have a better understanding of Chinese society and culture.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 30 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
