Course overview and goals
This course is for students who do not know much about or have never taken the TOEFL test. The course introduces students to its content and format as well basic vocabulary necessary so that they will be able not only to familiarize themselves with the test format but also study in academic institutions with English-speaking environment for a short period of time.
Course description and aims
・Students will understand the content and format of the TOEFL test.
・Students will improve their listening and speaking skills through interactive pair and group activities in class.
・Students will be able to understand a short speech or conversations and to summarize and explain orally its main content in simple sentences in English.

Class flow
Each class will have a vocabulary quiz to learn useful expressions for listening comprehension and conversation. Discuss social issues in English. Listening to the news and challenging TOEFL sample questions.
The course schedule will be changed depending on the level of the students.
The number of students may be limited if there is a large number of applicants. Students who wish to take the course must attend the first class. Please do not purchase textbooks until you are confirmed in the first class.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Class participation 30%(6 times), Test 50% (5 times), Final exam 20%(inculde the final class participation)
・Class participation: It is not attendance points. It includes notes and reports for discussions and speeches.
・If a student is unable to take a test due to unavoidable circumstances (with medical certificate, official absence), up to one retest will be given and 80% of the grade.
・There will be no retest for the final exam.
