Syllabus
Course overview and goals
This course focuses on thinking about our future society from the perspective of socially determined sexual differences(gender). In the recent years, in many multinational frameworks such as G20 or G7, global leaders discuss gender mainstreaming and sustainable economic development. There are many documents related with them. In this course we read these documents, discuss the trend and see the future.
For many students, studying, going business trip or giving talks in academic conference in abroad must be matter of course. Those who work and communicate globally need to understand basic knowledge of gender as liberal arts, which is the aim of this course. SDGs Goal5 is "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls". In this course we consider how that can be done. The students will be able to have their own plan to execute achieving gender equality in community, at home, in schools, at workplaces and so on.
Course description and aims
By the end of this course, students will be able to:1) Understand what is gender. 2) Realize unconscious gender bias which imprint at home or in schools. 3) Realize existing gender gap in education, economy or political world. 4) Understand gender norm is created by culture 5) Understand in many areas such as multinational consultations and entertainment industries are implemented gender perspective. 6)Participate in large conferences related with gender issues and give their own opinion and solutions based on evidence based analysis

The instructor is an experienced journalist writing over 300 articles about gender issues on newspapers, magazines and online media for the last 7 years. Also giving advices both for corporations and governmental organizations. Based on previous experience, I will make students who actively commit to this course youth leaders in gender and future society.

Class flow
At the beginning of the each classes, students present their own opinion or analysis based on preparation reading. Then the instructor explain the each topics. Active participation is strongly recommended. Participation of international students are encouraged. The instructor gives talks in Japanese, but students can speak both in Japanese and English. A part of reading materials are provided in English.

Class 9 | Gender and Media | Watching advertisement, news report, drama and film with gender lens. |

Class 12 | Gender gap in political field | Learn about gender gap in political field and write a short report. |

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

One reading reports is required. There are 7 times of reports and PPT preparations.
For the detail, the instructor will talk in the first lecture.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Students knowledge, analytical skill and active participation are assessed. 8 reports and PPT plus participation at the class will be evaluated.
