Course overview and goals
The aim of the class is to summarize one's thought into a better essay through the following three activities: deliberating connections between a student's major and the world and her/his own roles, responsibilities, and ethics in the connections, improving one's writing skill through understanding academic writing, and peer-reviewing.
Course description and aims
By the end of this class, students will be able to identify the connections between a student’s major and the world and her/his own roles, responsibilities, and ethics in the connections, acquire academic writing and critical thinking skills and provide appropriate peer review advice. Also, they will be able to improve the evaluation and criticism of sentences.

Class flow
In the first half of classes, students aim to acquire writing skills. In the second half, each student sets a theme of the "Final Report" and practice peer review while receiving assistance from graduate students, i.e., peer review practical class, in order to brush up the report through peer review and to improve writing skills.
Lesson progress may vary slightly from class to class.
The theme of the final thesis in English will be announced in the class.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterward (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Grading will be based on the Final Report (60 points) and peer review activities (40 points). Excellent liberal arts final report(s) will be commended.
Plagiarism is a cheating act. Instructors do not tolerate any form of plagiarism, and all work handed in will be checked for plagiarized content.
Engagement in both in-class and online peer review activities and weekly assignment submissions are required.
Students with 4 or more absences will fail this class. Two late arrivals will be counted as one absence. Except for circumstances such as train delays, you will not be able to enter the classroom if you are more than 15 minutes late (counted as one absence).
