Course overview and goals

Infrastructure refers to the indispensable social foundations that support everyday life and economic activities, and it represents a conglomerate of various industries. Traditionally, infrastructure has been understood as being closely related to civil engineering and construction—such as roads, railways, dams, and ports. However, in recent years digital technologies have been introduced into these legacy industries, leading to the emergence of new technologies and business models both domestically and internationally. Moreover, today the semiconductor, information and communications, and space industries are also recognized as important components of the infrastructure that underpins society. In this course, each lecture will focus on a specific industry, with the aim of understanding both domestic and international policy, technological development trends, and corporate activities. Please note that this course will address traditional infrastructure industries such as urban development, maritime transport, air transport, and land transport.
