Course overview and goals
In order to deepen understanding of nuclear reactor theory, students will carry out basic experiments in nuclear reactor physics using a nuclear reactor. The experiments will be carried out at Kinki University's nuclear reactor, and will include critical approach experiments, control rod worth measurement experiments, and nuclear reactor operation training. Prior to the experiments, students will receive lectures on the theory and experimental procedures.
Course description and aims
By taking this class, students will acquire the following skills.
(1) Students will be able to explain the basics of reactor physics, particularly the subcritical state, critical state, reactivity and kinetics of nuclear reactors.
(2) Students will be able to explain the basic procedures for operating nuclear reactors.
(3) Students will be able to explain the basic safety management procedures for nuclear reactors.
Keywords
Nuclear reactor theory, Reactor physics, Nuclear reactor experiments
Competencies
- Specialist skills
- Intercultural skills
- Communication skills
- Critical thinking skills
- Practical and/or problem-solving skills
Class flow
Experiments are conducted at Kinki University's nuclear reactor setting with graduate students from other universities. Prior to the experiments, there are also lectures on the theory and procedures of the experiments.
Course schedule/Objectives
Course schedule | Objectives | |
---|---|---|
Class 1 | Pre-experiment lecture: 3 times Experiment: 3-day camp. After each day's experiment, each group will organize and discuss the results. | Pre-experiment assignments related to experimental theory and reports summarizing the experimental results submitted after the experiment. |
