Course overview and goals
From the end of August to the beginning of September, students will stay at National Central University (NCU) in Taiwan. Under the guidance of NCU faculty and faculty members from Science Tokyo, they will form small groups with NCU graduate students and conduct fieldwork on urban disaster prevention, focusing on earthquakes, fires, and other related topics, over the course of approximately one week.
Following the fieldwork, they will prepare a report on disaster prevention, give an oral presentation, and participate in discussions. The following week, they will attend a symposium on disaster prevention jointly organized by the Civil Engineering departments at NCU and Science Tokyo, where they will present their research findings. The content of their presentation will be submitted as a paper before departure. After the symposium, they will visit sites in Taiwan related to disaster prevention, earthquake damage, and infrastructure development.
This program will help develop the students' expertise, international communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
For the 2026 academic year, the departure is scheduled for August 24, with the program expected to last for about two weeks starting the following day.
