Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course focuses on renewable energy utilization, district heating and cooling system and smart community as urban or district energy systems, and introduces their mechanism and advanced cases. Students are given homework at the first class, and present their findings at the last class.
The aim of this course is to teach students to understand a role of energy supply systems in urban or district planning.

Course description and aims

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Explain the mechanisms of renewable energy utilization, district heating and cooling system and smart community.
2) Make a basic urban planning in consideration of urban energy systems.

Class flow

Students share the role of the investigation of advanced cases at the end of class 2, 4 and 6, and present findings at the biginning of class 3, 5, and 7.

Class 8 Presentation and discussion of reports Role of energy systems in urban or district planning.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Students' course scores are based on reports(70%) and exercise problems(30%).
