Syllabus
Course overview and goals
This course focuses on urban regeneration and sustainability after the 20th century and covers the fundamentals of urbanism and environmental design in Japan.
At first, we focus on experimental urban regeneration in the early 20th century and the progress of urban regeneration after the World WarⅡ.
Second, we focus on issues of urban regeneration and social design projects in recent years.
In the latter half of this course, we focus on principles, movements and progress of urban regeneration.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand the field of urban regeneration.
2) Understand principles and progressive concepts of urban regeneration.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
1)Students will be assessed on their understanding of the origin and the progress of urban regeneration, and their ability to apply them to solve problems.
2)Students' course scores are based on midterm reports(40%) and final reports(60%).
