Course overview and goals

This is an internship course for the practical professional experience requirement for Japanese registered architect application.
Authorizing the practical professional experience for the design or supervision training in a off-campus design office or in-house faculties working on real architectural projects.
33.75 working hours are worth 1 credit, and 2 credits may be approved depending on working hours and details of the experience. (total of 67.5 hours or more)
Through this internship, students gain the practical experience necessary for the architect exam.

By accumulating practical experience in architectural design and supervision at their internship, students will learn practical knowledge and techniques, and deepen their understandings of university courses, while also complementing the details of their researches.

(a) Architectural planning and design assistance tasks for practical architectural design, such as studying relevant regulations, evacuation planning, sunlight calculations, blueprint creation assistance, model production, creating perspective drawings, creating presentation materials, surface area calculation, estimation assistance, creating proposal materials, creating tender documents, etc. (b) Structural planning and design assistance tasks for executing architectural design, such as studying relevant regulations, calculating loads, calculating the column axial force, building analysis models, stress analysis, member design, member analysis, member experiment guidance, joint design, joint analysis, joint experiment guidance, incremental loading analysis, calculating horizontal load-bearing capacity, time history response analysis, ground surveys, liquefaction evaluation, soil experiment guidance, foundation design, fire resistance design, creating structural calculation sheets, creating structural drawings, handling applications for confirmation, determining compatibility, performance assessment and evaluation support, creating structural presentation materials, etc. (c) Tasks assisting the design of facility and environmental planning for the final design of building facilities, such as studying relevant regulations, heat load calculations, thermal environment analysis, thermal measurements and experimental guidance, illumination calculation and analysis, light environment measurements and experimental guidance, air conditioning design, electrical equipment design, water supply and drainage design, firefighting equipment design, smoke control equipment design, ventilation equipment design, elevator and mobility equipment design, guiding sick building environmental measurements, environmental performance evaluations, creating an equipment calculation sheet, creating an equipment diagram, application documentation, fire safety applications support, creating environmental presentation materials, etc. (d) Tasks assisting construction supervision for architectural construction supervision, such as studying relevant regulations, temporary planning, heavy equipment planning, lifting planning, process planning, analysis during construction, ground inspection, reinforcement inspection, concrete quality control, mass concrete analysis, construction experiment guidance, frame testing, full scale testing, product inspection, welding inspection, equipment operation inspection, interior inspection, mock-up test, curtain wall watertight inspection, etc.	Students learn knowledge and techniques for the work they are in charge of, as well as communication skills for performing tasks at their internship host organizations.
