Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course will provide the opportunities to explore research topics of interest from an early stage after joining the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) department. As long as the selected topics are associated with the CEE, and students will be able to explore a wide range of topics and activities. The proposal of topics by students are welcome (e.g., group study, field trips, group discussion, participation in academic conferences, etc.). Also, through this course, undergraduate students will become familiar with CEE faculty members and their laboratories.

Students will study the topic of interest with an exploratory attitude and submit a report and make an oral presentation.

Class flow

In this course, students are required to contact and meet with a faculty member in advance to decide the topics to be conducted. If there are many students who take the same topics (same faculty members), the selection will be subjected (e.g., via preliminary interview). The specific course procedures are as follows.
(i) Aims and implementation policy of the course will be provided by guidance
(ii) When students are interested in the course, following procedure will be conducted.
(iii) The student will contact to the faculty members (related to the topics).
(iv) The student and faculty member will decide the topics which will be carried out in this course.
(v) After the activities, students will submit a report and present the outcome by the oral presentation.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
