Course overview and goals

"Independent Research Project S (CAP)" is aimed at third-year students majoring in applied chemistry who are aiming to graduate early. They decide on a research topic in consultation with their supervisor, deepen their understanding of the topic through literature research and discussion, and set a research policy. In the process of carrying out their research, they learn how to solve problems by utilizing the specialized knowledge and basic knowledge they have acquired through lecture courses. They learn the basics of research, such as data acquisition, data analysis, and consideration, and develop the ability to see things from multiple perspectives. They summarize the experimental results and considerations and present and discuss them in the laboratory. They show and discuss the results at a presentation and prepare a research report.

"Independent Research Project S (CAP)" is the core of laboratory education and is mutually complementary with coursework based on the department's systematic curriculum. Students are expected to acquire basic research skills that can be applied to research in graduate school and beyond, as well as the comprehensive skills required in society, such as identifying and setting issues and problems and solving problems.

Course description and aims

To acquire the following abilities:
1) Ability to apply specialized knowledge in the field of applied chemistry to problem-solving
2) Ability to independently learn the basics of specialized fields other than applied chemistry and apply them to problem-solving
3) Ability to understand the position of unsolved problems in the field of applied chemistry in society,
judge the impact of solving the problems on society, and work to solve them
4) Ability to provide logical explanations, develop arguments, summarize in writing, and give clear presentations
5) Ability to have the awareness of being an independent researcher and the knowledge and explanations necessary to communicate in discussions with others
