Course overview and goals

Electrodeposition is a technique to decorate materials on surfaces of another material (could be the same material) through electrochemical reactions. Fundamentals of electrochemistry, such as thermodynamics, reaction kinetics and mass transfer are topics in this class. Chronopotentiometry and chronoamperometry are common electrochemical techniques, which will be included. Examples on research and application of electrodeposition will also be introduced.

Course description and aims

Fundamentals of electrochemistry and practical knowledge on electrodeposition.

Keywords

Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics, Reaction Kinetics, Mass Transfer, Chronopotentiometry, Chronoamperometry, Electrodeposition

Competencies

  • Specialist skills
  • Intercultural skills
  • Communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

The class will be mostly on lectures, and practice questions will be given in class to ensure a better understanding of the lecture content. Interactions, such as questions or comments, are encouraged. Also, the attendant will be part of the grading.
