Course overview and goals

To obtain the optimum shape and function at research or creative works, students in this course will work to learn processing machines and its safety use.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1)Be able to use the processing machines such as milling machine, lathe, drill press, band saw laser material processing machines appropriately, and to obtain objective shape.
2)Be able to judge a optimum shape by the use of measurement equipment.

Keywords

Machine tools,Safty use on processing machines, Measurements

Competencies

  • Specialist skills
  • Intercultural skills
  • Communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Practical and/or problem-solving skills

Class flow

The course is centered on practical training in groups of 7 -8 people. Each group will learn material processing methods, the use of measurement equipment, machine operation of tools. In addition, students will learn that safe procedure, and the predicted risks. And students will also learn about the emergency actions to be taken.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京科学大学学修規程), for each class. They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Textbook(s)

Not specified.
- Lecture materials will be distributed at the beginning of 1st class.
- Supplementary materials for each class will be uploaded to T2SCHOLA.

Reference books, course materials, etc.

Not specified.

Prerequisites

Students must have successfully completed both Mechanical engineering literacy (MEC.A202) and Engineering Literacy (XEG.B101・XEG.B102・XEG.B103・XEG.B104) or have equivalent knowledge. Because of the limit of the number of devices or tools, a student of the Mechanical Engineering can take this course with priority when the number of students is greater than the number of machine.

Other

For safety reasons, students should wear appropriate clothing for mechanical processing such as work clothes. Depending on the assignment, students need a PC with Inventor installed.
