Course overview and goals

In this course, we treat the fundamental physics of the cross-correlated phenomena between electric, magnetic, elastic, and thermal properties of materials, and their unified description based on symmetry. In particular, the fundamental aspects of symmetry and the concept of multipole bases are introduced. The multipole bases are useful for describing the relationship between microscopic degrees of freedom in underlying crystal structures and their physical properties.

Course description and aims

To understand and explain the fundamental concepts for dealing with symmetry.
To understand and explain the relationship between electronic states in material structures and their physical properties.

Keywords

symmetry, cross-correlated response, multipole basis
