Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This is an introductory course of researches in the field of earth and planetary sciences. Courses that students have taken thus far are mainly basic lectures and practicum. Through this course students will be exposed to diverse and cutting-edge researches in earth and planetary sciences for the first time.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) understand research activities in a particular field, and acquire basic technique to pursue their own researches for graduation theses.
2) know research activities in various fields of earth and planetary sciences through attending EPS seminar.

Class flow

Colloquia related with graduation theses will be held in each laboratory. Students are also required to attend EPS seminar held at the department.

Class 1 - Attend seminar and research acitivities in each laboratory, and acquire basic skill to pursue graduation thesis. Detailed program will be announced in each laboratory. - Attend EPS seminars held at the department, and expand knowledge about earth and planetary sciences. Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Students' attitude about attending colloquium and seminar, and level of understanding of earth and planetary sciences will be assessed in a comprehensive manner.
