Course overview and goals

To develop leaders who can lead innovation by utilizing data science and AI, the objective of this course is for students to acquire the fundamentals of business management by utilizing digital and AI technologies, and to be able to create business plans.

・The objective of this course is to develop leaders who can lead innovation in the application of digital and AI technologies to business, to acquire the fundamentals of business management, and to create business plans.
・To understand that while data and AI technologies are used in a wide range of fields, they share common characteristics in their business.
・To acquire the basics of business management by utilizing DS&AI business as a part of DS&AI university-wide education.
・To understand that data and AI technologies are used in a wide range of fields, and that they have common characteristics in business.

Course description and aims

Students creates their own business proposals not only in lectures but also through group work in PBL, focusing on practical and managerial perspectives on business with digital and AI fields in mind, in particular, the structure and ecosystem of venture businesses and digital transformation (DX) in companies.

Student learning outcomes

・Prof. Tagui Ichikawa has over 30 years of experience in innovation, digital, and AI policy at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and related organizations. He is also a specially-appointed professor at Hitotsubashi University.
・Prof. Kenji Suzuki specializes in AI ethics, information law, and artificial intelligence at Sony Group Inc. He is also a visiting professor at Nagoya University.

Class flow

【Important】
・Guidance will be given in the first class, and students are required to attend the guidance.
・Students who wish to take the course are required to send an e-mail to Prof. Ichikawa (ichikawa.t.ba79@m.isct.ac.jp)and Prof. Suzuki (suzuki.k.5af1@m.isct.ac.jp)before each class, in principle, with a few lines of Japanese, explaining (1) your self-introduction, (2) your reasons for taking the course, and (3) your areas of business interests.
・The number of students is limited to 30 because of the group work. If the number exceeds the limit, selection will be made based on the contents of the above e-mail.

・In addition to the general overview of data science and AI business, lectures on the Internet, venture business, DX, etc. will be the main focus (about 1 hour per session).
・Group work (PBL) will be conducted in each session (about 30 minutes per session).
・Each group presents and discusses their business plan at the interim presentation and final presentation.
・Face-to-face classes (Oookayama Campus) only.
・Guidance will be given in the first class, and students are required to attend the guidance.
・The maximum number of participants is 30. If the number exceeded the limit, a lottery would be held.
・This class will be conducted in Japanese only.

Class 4 Global Startup Ecosystem and Japanese Policy Trends Group Work (4) Funding and collaboration structure and direction of international strategy
Class 5 Digital Transformation (DX) in the enterprise Group Work (5) Recruitment, organizational structure and leadership
Class 6 Risk Management for Data Science and AI Businesses Group Work (6) Compliance and AI Ethics Assessment in Business.
Class 7 Business plan presentations from students Presentation and discussion of each group's business plan.

Study advice (preparation and review)

Each group should be given approximately 100 minutes to summarize their work, referring to the relevant sections of the handouts.

Evaluation methods and criteria

・The grade will be based on Pass or Fail.
・The evaluation is based on active participation in class, contribution to group work, work in each session, midterm presentation, and final presentation.
