Course overview and goals
Experienced instructors provide practical training of English communication using an original textbook developed for this course. Each class focuses on a specific skill, and key expressions essential for English communication in academic settings are presented.
The aim of this course is to provide comprehensive improvement to English communication skills on science and technology-related topics.
Course description and aims
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. conduct English conversation smoothly on science and technology-related topics.
2. communicate smoothly in English with people who have different cultural or educational backgrounds.
3. improve their English proficiency levels.

Class flow
A level-check interview is conducted in the first week. Based on the results, class organization is determined. Subsequently, each class focuses on a specific theme described in each chapter of the textbook. Homework assignments are due in almost all classes.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Students' grades are based on (i) pre-class assignments (40%), (ii) active participation in discussion and conversation with independent use of the speaking skills introduced in the course (35%), and (iii) the final examination (25%).
