授業の目的（ねらい）、概要
この授業はTOEFLをまったく知らないあるいは受験したことがない学生向けのTOEFL入門の授業である。英語の四技能のうち、特に聴解力と発話力の基礎力を磨きながら、TOEFLのテスト形式になれることを目指す。また短期留学に必要な基礎的な語彙を学ぶ。
到達目標
・TOEFLの出題形式や内容に親しむこと。
・クラス内でのペアワークやグループワークを通して聴解力と発話力を向上させること。
・短いスピーチや会話を聴き、要点を理解したうえでその要点を短文で要約し英語を使って表現することができること。

授業の進め方
We continue to explore various issues using audio lectures (TOEFL), news clips, and discussions. Students are expected to study the vocabulary and come to class prepared for discussions. In addition to improving their listening and speaking skills, students will learn basic skills that are essential for creating and delivering effective presentations. The class is highly interactive. Therefore, students’ strong commitment and active participation are the keys to success, not only for themselves, but also for the entire class.

| 第2回 | TOEFL listening strategies Speaking exercises | Students will be asked to speak on a given topic during the class. |
| 第3回 | TOEFL listening/speaking exercise Pronunciation exercises | Students will learn how to improve their English pronunciation. |
| 第4回 | TOEFL strategies (integrated tasks) | Students will learn how to tackle TOEFL Listening integrated tasks. |
| 第5回 | Developing public speaking skills Vocabulary quiz | Students are expected to study all the vocabulary covered. |
| 第6回 | Speech (Group A) Listening Test 1 | Students assigned to Group A will deliver a presentation on a given topic. All students are expected to review the TOEFL listening strategies. |
| 第7回 | Speech (Group B) Listening Test 2 | Students assigned to Group B will deliver a presentation on a given topic. All students are expected to review the TOEFL listening strategies. |
準備学修(事前学修・復習)等についての指示
学修効果を上げるため，教科書や配布資料等の該当箇所を参照し，「毎授業」授業内容に関する予習と復習（課題含む）をそれぞれ概ね100分を目安に行うこと。

成績評価の方法及び基準
Class participation: 30% (Evaluation will be based on attitude, contribution, improvement, and a willingness to learn.)
Listening tests: 25%
Speech: 45%
