Course overview and goals

This course focuses on the fundamental aspects of polymer synthesis (step-growth polymerization) and a guidance of polymer science including history, sturcture, properties and industrial applications.
During this lecture, students understand significant topics of step-growth polymerization. Moreover, students should explain importances of modern artifical polymer such as PET, phenolic resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane, kevler.

Course description and aims

Students will lean to do the followings; 1.The history of polymers; 2.The charactristics of polymer; 3. Molecular weight of polymers; 4. Polycondensation (synthetic method); 5.Condensation polymers and engineering plastic; 6.Polyaddtion (Polyurethane and its network polymer); 7. Addtion-condensation (Phenolic resin); 8.Process chemistry of polymer synthesis.
