Course overview and goals

"TOEIC Seminar 3" is designed as an introductory course for students planning to take the TOEIC test. Of the four English-language skills, it puts special emphasis on listening and reading.

Offering TOEIC-style exercises, this course enables students to become familiar with the TOEIC test format. It also aims at improving students' overall English ability by expanding their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
・ familiarize themselves with the TOEIC test format.
・ increase their vocabulary, refine their knowledge of various grammatical structures, and brush up their listening and reading skills.
・ comprehensively improve their English to achieve higher scores on the TOEIC test.

Class flow

Students are required to answer TOEIC style questions in the textbook in order to improve English language proficiency in various settings. They take a weekly mini-test to expand their range of vocabulary.

Class 1 Introduction: On how to deal with TOEIC. Unit 1: Shopping Present Tense Understand the course objectives. Learn how to use present tense and build up vocabulary.
Class 2 Unit 2. Entertainment & Weather Past tense Mini-Test 1 Learn how to use past tense and build up vocabulary
Class 3 Unit 3: Eating Out Progressive Tense, Perfect Tense Mini-Test 2 Learn how to use progressive tense and perfect tense and build up vocabulary
Class 4 Unit 4: Travel Articles, Pronouns Mini-Test 3 Learn how to use pronouns and build up vocabulary
Class 5 Unit 5: Health Nouns Mini-Test 4 Learn how to use nouns and build up vocabulary
Class 6 Unit 6: Housing & Media Adjectives, Adverbs Mini-Test 5 Learn how to use adjectives and adverbs and build up vocabulary
Class 7 Review and Final Exam Reduce grammatical errors and build up vocabulary

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to prepare for class and review class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
