授業の目的（ねらい）、概要
すべての「英語スピーキング演習」の科目は学生の話す力を伸ばすことを目標としている。発表以外の場においては、効果的に話すためには効果的に聞くことも必要となることから、これらの科目の授業や宿題においては、互いに話し合う練習やきちんと聞く練習を行う。
大学院の選択科目である「英語スピーキング演習第十三」では、毎週の授業の前に課された教材を読み、それに批判的に反応できることを学生に求める。毎回読んだ内容についてクラスのメンバーの間で詳細なディスカッションを行い、学生には、ある特定のリーディングのトピックを例示したりトピックに関連していると思われる現象や行動について、口頭で発表してもらう。
到達目標
この授業科目を履修することにより、学生は読んだ教材に描かれているような現象や行動が「本当の生活」の中で現れているのを認識することができるようになる。また、学生は日本人ではない人（たとえば東工大の留学生）との交流において、あるいは、日本人との交流において（留学生の場合）、それについて話すことができるようになる。

授業の進め方
We will watch and analyze excerpts from advanced-level TED talks on a variety of topics, paying attention to presentation techniques to be integrated into our own final presentation; we will discuss complex concepts using advanced vocabulary and grammar structures.
