授業の目的（ねらい）、概要

英語第五に引き続き、この授業科目では、大学レベルでの学修・研究活動を英語で行うために必要な英語運用力のいっそうの向上を目的とした演習を行う。国際意識の醸成に資する目的で海外事情・異文化理解に関する教材を用いるほか、科学技術に関する英語素材を用いる。英語の読解力と聴解力の向上を目指す訓練に加え、口頭の発話練習および構成を考えながらパラグラフや短いエッセイを書く訓練を行うことによって、英語での発信に習熟することも目指す。

到達目標

この授業科目では、次のような英語の知識と運用力およびコミュニケーションへの姿勢を身につけることが目標となる。
・英語で自己表現する力がつく
・パラグラフや短いエッセイを書く力がつく
・英語の講義を理解する聴解力がつく
・英文を読みこなすための方法が身につく

授業の進め方

Students will work on the fundamentals of paragraph writing. By the end of the class, students should be able to extemporize a well-constructed paragraph.

第1回	Introduction, Student Introductions	Establish course aims, establish working method, first practical use of English, review of material covered in English 5 RW. Textbook pages 36-41 Students will do the textbook exercises in class. Students will do an assigned reading and write a reaction or summary paragraph.
第2回	Narratives	Textbook pages 42 - 47 Students will do the textbook exercises in class. Students will do an assigned reading and write a reaction or summary paragraph.
第3回	Descriptions	Textbook pages 48 - 53 Students will do the textbook exercises in class. Students will do an assigned reading and write a reaction or summary paragraph.
第4回	Opinions	Textbook pages 54 - 59 Students will do the textbook exercises in class. Students will do an assigned reading and write a reaction or summary paragraph.
第5回	Class Zine - Initiation	Textbook pages 60 - 66 Using the textbook final project as a guide, students will create a class zine. In this class, students will assign each other subjects to write about and begin the writing process.
第6回	Class Zine - Creation	Students will proofread, edit, and assemble the zine.
第7回	Class Zine - Distribution	Class zine will be distributed and students will read it. They will write their final weekly paragraph as a reaction to the process of creating the zine.

学修効果を上げるため，教科書や配布資料等の該当箇所を参照し，「毎授業」授業内容に関する予習と復習（課題含む）をそれぞれ概ね100分を目安に行うこと。
