Course overview and goals
The main goal of this course is to send students to universities abroad so that they can improve their English language skills, especially the practical communication skills necessary for global scientists and engineers. In order to enhance students' learning, we will provide them with preparation sessions before they go abroad, and offer review sessions after they return to Tokyo Tech.
This course will give students a chance to try to improve their English language skills overseas.
To register for this course, participation in the specified study abroad program is required. Attend briefings on the TASTE (Tokyo Tech Abroad Short-Term Education) program and apply for the program accordingly. Register for the course only AFTER your participation in the program is approved by Tokyo Tech.
Course description and aims
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
・Make short presentations in English on topics of their own choosing.
・Communicate in English.
・Understand and respect cultures other than their own.
・Deal with problems while studying abroad.

Class flow
The number of the preparation/review sessions varies from one to five depending on the program. Details will be notified to the participants of each program.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria
grades obtained from courses taken abroad 60%, preparation/review sessions and a report 40% (The report should be 5 to 6 pages long on A4 sheets and must be written in English. The details will be explained at the orientation.)
