Course overview and goals

All of the "English Presentation Seminar" courses are designed to provide students with the tools to deliver effective presentations with confidence. As these are practice-oriented courses, students will deliver multiple presentations throughout the term. Furthermore, students will sharpen their listening skills by learning how to ask good questions and become active listeners.

As an elective 100-level course, English Presentation Seminar 1 offers the basic skills for delivering well-structured group presentations.

Course description and aims

By the end of this course, students will be able to give individual and group presentations followed by question and answer sessions, applying the skills and knowledge discussed in this course.

Class flow

The class will be based around the acquisition and improvement of practical communication skills. Practice is key.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Assessment is constant. There will be a classroom self-assessment exercise at the end of the course. Class participation 70% Assignments 30%

Attendance at the first class is compulsory for students planning to take this course.
In case student enrollment exceeds the class capacity, we may limit the number of students who can take this course. Please make sure to attend the first class and refrain from purchasing text books until after your spot is ensured during the first class.
