Course overview and goals
Based on English 7, English 8 is designed to improve students’ English language skills for academic purposes and provide them with more knowledge in relevant areas. The materials include topics such as international and intercultural issues as well as current topics of science and technology. Expectations require students to practice: reading academic articles, listening to English lectures, speaking before an audience, and developing skills to write paragraphs and short essays.

Class flow
This textbook covers interdisciplinary topics appropriate for university students, such as “Academic Research” and “What is Science.” Students not only develop English listening skills by listening to conversations and monologues related to each Unit's topic, but also practice organizing information, examining it from various angles, and expressing their own opinions in a logical and objective manner. The students will also practice to express their opinions logically and objectively after organizing information and considering various angles. Students will also create a presentation outline for organizing and expressing their own opinions in English based on interactions between speakers with different linguistic & cultural backgrounds and audio monologues on matters of disagreement, and give a presentation at the end of the semester.

Study advice (preparation and review)
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
