Syllabus

Course overview and goals

Students will conduct exploratory research aligned with their own areas of concern under the direct guidance of ILA
faculty members (mentors) This course is a requirement for undergraduate students who have earned credits in the "Liberal Arts Exploration Workshop" and will take place during the third year of study. The procedure for selecting a mentor will be provided during the "Liberal Arts Exploration Workshop" class.

Course description and aims

(1) Become able to formulate creative and exploratory questions based on one's own interests and themes.
(2) Become able to select and execute research methods aligned with personal areas of concern for further exploration.
(3) Become able to organize prior research in related academic fields on one's own research theme according to scholarly conventions
(4) Become able to plan research, write research papers, and summarize research results.
(5) Become able to expand and deepen one's own ideas and generate new insights through dialogue with mentors.

Class flow

Students will consult regularly with their mentor faculty, receive direct guidance equivalent to 100 minutes x 7 sessions, and conduct independent study on their own research themes. The schedule and method for direct instruction will be determined after prior consultation with the mentor faculty member.
