Course overview and goals

This course focuses on responses and its mechanisms in skeletal muscle after various stimulations (exercise, aging).

Course description and aims

Students will be able to explain the significance of the adaptation of skeletal muscle and this age-related changes (sarcopenia)

Class flow

The class is mainly lecture, while students measure their own circulation in non-invasive manner and analyze the data in some classes.
Attendance is taken in every class.

Class 2 Basic structures of the skeletal muscle Explain the basic strucutures of the skeletal muscle
Class 3 Diabetes and Obesity Explain the mechanism of diabetes and obesity.
Class 4 The effect of endurance training for human body Explain the effect of endurance training for human body
Class 5 The effect of resistance training for human body Explain the effect of resistance training for human body
Class 6 Sarcopenia and its attenuating approaches Explain the molecular mechanism and the atenuating approaches of sarcopenia
Class 7 Discussion on the report and summay Have presentation on own report and discuss.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Students' course scores are based on quiz (30%), report (40%) and commitment to discussion (30)
