Course overview and goals

This course is designed to perform the practice about methods of planing and design a built environment.

Course description and aims

Participants will acquire the following abilities.
1) Ability to discover and explore new issues in survey, plan, and creation in urban design and built environment.
2) Ability to find solutions for problems in urban design and built environment based on integration among different knowledges and
technologies.
3) Ability to explain concepts logically, develop arguments, and presentation.

Class flow

Two or three weeks are grouped, and various specialized professors in urban and built environment courses take charge in turn. With the aim of introducing urban and built environment courses, each student cooperates in a group based on the following points, and aims to propose a built environment through a series of tasks from survey and analysis to planning.

Class 1 Group work based on the topics that supervisors in charge of this class plan. Practical topics such as the improvement of the Tokyo Institute of Technology campus.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京工業大学学修規程) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Graduate Learning (東京工業大学大学院学修規程), for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Specifics of the assessment criteria and methods, which are in accordance with the student learning outcomes 1-3, will be announced prior to the start of the course. The scoring will be based on such criteria and the eagerness toward lectures and workshops.
