Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course on building services introduces an outline of building equipment, especially air conditioning units and plumbing systems, after lectures on environmental engineering and the planning of building services. Furthermore, the design of lighting, the thermal environment of cities and urban energy facilities are included.
The purpose of this course is for students to understand the design of air conditioning, thermal loads, air diagrams, air cleaning, water supply systems and so on.

Course description and aims

At the end of this course, students will be able to explain the basics and theory of air conditioning and plumbing systems and understand the design of each building service. Furthermore, students will gain an understanding of facilities such as the cleanroom, the design of lighting, the thermal environment of cities and urban energy facilities.

Each class is devoted to fundamentals and to advanced content or applications. To allow students to achieve a good understanding from the course, practice applications related to the contents of this course are provided. Attendance is taken in every class.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
