Syllabus

Course overview and goals

Through group exercises with industries in the fields of space science and life science etc, students learn how to set and solve social problems. In addition to acquiring the basic knowledge necessary for group discussions, students will acquire the skills necessary to implement basic science in society.

Course description and aims

The objectives of this class are to acquire the following abilities through student-industry collaboration:

1) Understand Earth-Life as systems and extract the problems inherent in the systems.
2) Understand the systems' bottlenecks and discuss and propose methodologies to improve them based on interdisciplinary discussion.
3) Acquire experimental and theoretical knowledge on Earth and planetary science, material chemistry, and life science.
4) Summarize the results and make presentations that different disciplines and backgrounds can be understood.

Class flow

In the class, students conduct group works and take the initiative in tackling the projects. Within the group, students perform project exercises through experiments and calculations based on the guidance of the lecturers. In addition to discussion inside and outside the group, the results of research are presented for industries and organizations. In presentation, students are trained by the lecturers.
