Syllabus

Course overview and goals

This course mainly focuses on basic and communication skills that are necessary for creation of innovation related to environmental energy. Discussion among students of the Energy Science and Informatics course with different fields of research backgrounds helps to promote diverse perspectives necessary for creation of innovation in research. Through this course, students are expected to develop a clear understanding of research and its relation with global society. Specifically, each student develops a research initiative for energy innovation and perform a poster presentation at the end of the course. Through discussion with students and professors from different fields, students are expected to develop skills necessary to logically construct and present their own understanding of research topics. This course will help students to develop effective communication and intellectual exchanges of research topics in the future.

Course description and aims

Through the energy innovation co-creative project course students are expected to acquire the following abilities to:
1) Understand objectives and trends of research, global wide issues, and data science approaches in the environmental energy field .
2) Logically construct and present their own understanding of research topics.
3) Use expertise as basic knowledge for understanding contents of other fields related to energy, and also be able to examine and make suggestions according to their understanding of research topics.

Class flow

Students prepare to explain and discuss own research topic and importance in an easy-to-understand manner to students and professors with different expertise backgrounds. For instance, through examining literatures and discussion with supervisors and research laboratory members, Students clarify the connection between the environmental energy issues focused on in their research theme and global society, and give concrete form to their research concept for energy innovation. Each student is divided into groups, and they present their research ideas and importance in the poster session and have discussions with students and faculty members from different fields of expertise.
The event is held where all seven departments of the Energy Science and Informatics course get together, having the poster session, as well as lectures and panel discussions planned each year. The date, time and location will be announced.
