Course overview and goals

Microstructural growth which is the basic knowledge of manufacturing metals and is taught from the view point of cristal growth. Especially microstructure formation other than solidification, such as powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing and vapor deposition will be introduced.

Course description and aims

Physical, chemical and mechanical properties of metals and alloys are strongly connected to the microstructure. The microstructure is varied with the processes. In this course, relationship between crystal growth and mictostructure formation is taught. And effect of those on the materials characteristics as the result of is learnt.
