Course overview and goals

This is an intensive course on the fundamentals of scientific reading in English.

The goal of this course is to equip the students with the elementary skills needed for effective scientific reading.
This class covers the essential aspects of how to read and understand papers in academic journals.

Students will be able to obtain the elementary skills needed for effective scientific reading, writing, and discussion.

Class flow

Class plan must be deliberated between supervisor and student.
English reports on research assignment must be presented and discussed, preferably to members of other laboratories in the department and/or out of the university, continuously during the course.

Study advice (preparation and review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
